Therapy can help you to manage the pressures and stresses that life brings. It can help you to feel better about yourself and as a consequence, it can have a beneficial effect on all your relationships be they family, friends, children or colleagues, thereby, enabling you to achieve a better balance in everyday living.

Therapy with a counsellor or psychotherapist who you feel comfortable with is an important factor in determining whether or not counselling will help you. Feeling comfortable enough to talk about everything that is concerning you is valuable. You need to know that you will be listened to in confidence, sincerely, with care and without judgement.

For those who have not had counselling before it may seem a difficult step. You may wonder what actually happens, or wonder how it works. It may be that you want to know if it will help You. Any of your queries can be addressed by phone, e-mail or at the initial consultation or at any point during therapy.

In my experience, people come to therapy for a whole host of reasons. Some come because they have a particular problem or difficulty they need to deal with. Others, because they have suffered from a recent crisis in their life which they seem unable to overcome this time, without help. Some come because they seek direction or meaning in their life, they may be thinking there should be more to life, having a general sense of dissatisfaction. Still others come when they feel they have no where or noone to turn to help them. However, no matter what prompts you to seek therapy/counselling, you can be assured that you will gain clarity into your particular situation and patterns of thinking and behaviour. Through the process of therapy you may come to see things from different perspective, enabling you, should you wish to, to choose different ways of responding.

Clients frequently come with relationship difficulties, be they marriage, family, friendship, social or work relationships. Some may be suffering from depression, anxiety or overwhelming distress. Some feel unable to cope with life and feel the struggle is never-ending. Some feel so isolated that they believe things cannot get better. This is not true. Change is inevitable and therefore the possibility for a very different life is always present. This may be difficult to accept, yet through the process of therapy your world-view can alter and possibilities you had not considered before are clearly revealed to you.

You may come to see me for an initial consultation to see if you feel comfortable working together and there is no further obglitation. If you do decide to continue, you may choose either short-term or open-ended therapy, so you decide the number of sessions you need. This can be reviewed and you may change your mind at any time. Counselling is a very personal issue and it is what you feel comfortable with or rather what suits you, that is important. The therapy is for you
